Know Their Mood

Values Beliefs Traits Emotions Moods are contagious. Leaders are designers of the moods of their organization and Exceptional Leaders are aware of this. If the leader is in a negative mood, it will spread. If they are in a positive mood it will spread.

You can tell if the mood in a company is upbeat, subdued or downright depressing just by walking through employee areas.

The mood of a company is a decisive factor in determining what the company can accomplish. Employees’ moods can influence how well they produce and how they relate to customers. And the mood of employees is dramatically influenced by the mood of the leader.

Sports coaches know the value of a team’s mood and how it influences success. You can see examples of this as you watch team sports.

Exceptional Leaders then must not only know their mood, but be able to positively shift their mood when needed.

  • Do you have your mood, or does your mood have you?
  • What mood are you in when you come into work in the morning?
  • What is the prevalent mood of your front line people, those in front of the customers and general public?
  • Do you have strategies to shift your mood? And, the mood in the work environment?
 

As Dale Carnegie said almost a century ago, “Act enthusiastic and you will be enthusiastic!” And so will your people.
