EXCEPTIONAL LEADERS...
Do What's Right
Exceptional Leaders are able to stay in touch with their foundational values and focus on doing what is right.
Those executives from Enron and folks like Martha Stewart don’t perceive themselves as crooks. However, they found themselves sitting in prison. Something went terribly wrong.
I suspect that two of the several factors that were at play were ‘beating the system’ and ‘a small effort coupled with huge gain’.
One could get caught up in a culture that provides large personal payoff but does not support one’s foundational values. In the absence of being in other communities that support those values to remind us of what is really important, there is a possibility that we can go astray, while deceiving ourselves that we are in integrity
Exceptional Leaders are aware of these negative potentials and keep their inner rudder straight.
Thought Provoker
- If you find yourself being caught up in how clever you are in beating the system, you may need to ask yourself, and perhaps others, whether you are doing the right thing.
- If the payback is far greater than the effort made, you may want to ask yourself whether you are dong the right thing.
- Do you have a strong inner rudder?
- Have you identified your core values?
- Do you communicate your values to others?
- Do you have a community that will remind you of what is really important?

Exceptional Leaders stick to essentials and avoid the busy-ness that can diminish their leadership effectiveness.
