EXCEPTIONAL LEADERS...
Do What Works

Values Beliefs Traits Emotions Exceptional Leaders are practical. They focus more on doing what works than on theory. This does not mean that having theories is bad. After reading the latest book and hearing the current expert, a leader may certainly experiment and try new things.

However, theories must constantly be tested to ensure that they yield practical measurable results. The risk of implementing unproven approaches can be substantial. Ask the conservative heart surgeon or even the IT manager, both of whom prefer to use the tried and true until the latest and greatest innovation has shown that it truly works

? Thought Provoker

  • Do you balance innovation, trying new approaches and theories, with a real-time evaluation of what really works?
  • Have you invested in unproven systems, expecting spectacular results? Is it time to cut your losses?
  • Perhaps you should persist with the latest innovations, such as a new system, with the expectation that it will prove out.
  • Do you periodically test implementation to ensure that things do actually work and deliver as professed.

Exceptional leaders know that innovation is essential. Innovation that works is critical.
