EXCEPTIONAL LEADERS...
Are Self-Confident

Values Beliefs Traits Emotions Because leaders know their abilities accurately, they can play to their strengths. They have an inner rudder, knowing that the course they choose and the action they take will be successful.

They are optimistic about their abilities to take on tough assignments and make the necessary decisions and actions to be successful.

They are not only internally self-confident; their self-confidence is also apparent to others.

Self-confidence is not about having all of the answers. It is a way of being and an attitude. It is about having confidence in knowing what you want and in your ability to achieve it.

  • Do you have inner self-confidence? Some leaders have it naturally. Others need preparation, planning and self-reflection to gain the “inner rudder” that gives them the self-confidence to act.
  • Think about how you come across to others. Do you convey self-confidence by communicating convincingly and directly to others?
  • Do others see you as a quiet and calming presence in the organization?
  • Where are you not demonstrating self-confidence? Is it with your boss? Perhaps a more experienced subordinate? Perhaps in certain group situations?
  • Realize that practice and preparation can be the key to attaining self-confidence

Demonstrating confidence as a leader is essential for leading successfully.
